I showed up to their house around 2pm. He was wide awake and full of cuddles...such a sweetie! After I got my snuggling in, it was time to snap a few photos. As much as we tried to position those hands...
or comfort him...
he just wanted to take a nap. Can you blame him??
So, he did. And he was, clearly, happy.
You can bet there will be more of this guy in the future...maybe even with his gorgeous sisters <3

Standing atop a picnic table, waiting patiently for some signs of life to appear in this hazy, drab landscape, and a flock of geese flies honking overhead. Thanks, nature! You always come through for me! I realized I'd been standing there for 20 minutes, and I wasn't even wearing a coat. I thought back to a 2016 landscape session where I could only leave my car for 5 minutes at a time, lest my fingers fall off from frost bite. Naturally, I went back through my archives when I got home. I found the session I was thinking of. Just looking at the photos brought a chill to the air...it really was freezing. And it was April. April 9th, 2016 in Sandusky, Ohio looked a lot like what I was hoping for today...see?
I'll be playing catch up for the next week or so. I'm hoping winter doesn't have the same plans! Hope you've all managed to outrun the never-ending coughs, colds, and flus of 2017. There is some serious cuteness coming to the blog REALLY SOON! Keep an eye out!

1. Know your angles. Girls (and maybe guys, too), this is a no-brainer. You’ve posed in the bathroom mirror before, and you know how you want your face to look in photographs. If you know you look better from your left side, take your photo from the left. When in doubt, shoot from above, or at least slightly higher than eye level.
2. Get lit. It’s no secret that great lighting makes great photographs. Natural light, in my opinion, is always the most flattering. Find a window, or head outside…get some sunshine on your shoulder; it’ll make you happy. (Miss the John Denver reference? Move along, I’m old.)
3. Watch your back(ground). I know I’m not the only one who has seen the memes of the pretty girls taking selfies with unflushed toilets in the background. Bathroom selfies, in general, are a bad idea…unless there’s ring-lighting in there. Then go for it, girlfriend!
4. Bea-U-tiful. Have fun, and be yourself. You can’t get nervous when you’re the photographer, amiright? I don’t want to see any fake smiles!
5. Love your selfie. You did it, now go share that sucker and get some likes. Print it out, and hang it on your wall. You’re a selfie rockstar.

So, stay tuned. This week's assignment is a self portrait. One using a tripod, not an iPod. Of course, I'll blog about it AND post my favorite image. Who knows, I might even include some "selfie" dos and don'ts! I'll leave you with an iPod selfie...and anticipation. See you soon!

While every year has its ups and downs, I'd like to take this time and give thanks for the truly amazing year I've had in the world of portraiture. I've won awards, been published, and grown a business out of my love for photography. I've had the great pleasure of photographing old friends and new, family, and community.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for trusting me to create your family heirlooms. I am grateful to have the ability to freeze time...to tell your story...to capture those fleeting moments in your lives. I wish you all much love, health, and happiness in the coming year. In sessions I often joke, "Don't blink!" But if you do, hopefully there's a photographer nearby to document what you've missed. Smile & live a little...
And don't forget to dance.
